From a simple school project to a remarkable initiative, Tushar Mehrotra, a determined class 10 student at Pathways World School, Gurgaon, has proven that a single individual’s efforts can create a significant impact. What began as a plan to donate books to a government primary school in Sector 54, Gurgaon, transformed into a mission to improve facilities, infrastructure, and educational opportunities for underprivileged students.

A Compassionate Vision

Tushar Mehrotra’s journey of change began when his school initiated a project centered around social responsibility. His initial intention was to donate books and establish a library at the Government Primary School. However, upon witnessing the inadequate facilities and infrastructure at the school, Tushar felt a strong conviction to do more. In an interview with The Times of India, Tushar shared, “At first, it was just a school project. My plan was to donate books, set up a library, and leave. But upon visiting the school and observing the conditions, I felt compelled to take further action.” Determined to create a lasting impact, Tushar launched an online crowdfunding campaign and sought support from relatives abroad to fund his initiative. The funds raised were used to install fans and water purifiers, significantly enhancing the school’s environment.

The 15-year-old dedicates his weekends to visit the school, engaging with the students on various subjects, discussing current affairs, and organizing interactive activities. His unwavering commitment has sparked a newfound interest in studies among the students, particularly in the subject of English.

Balvinder Singh, the in-charge of the school, expressed his admiration for Tushar’s efforts, saying, “Tushar’s commendable actions extend beyond monetary contributions. He provides attention and care to the children. Since he started his involvement here, the students’ enthusiasm for learning, especially in English, has grown. His example is one that more people should follow.”

What was once a daunting subject, English, has now become a favourite among the 300 students at the school. Tushar’s engaging approach and dedication have instilled confidence and a thirst for knowledge, transforming their academic journey.

In Tushar’s own words, “When I introduced activity classes, I asked the children what they wanted to learn. Surprisingly, most of them said ‘English.’ They had the desire to learn but lacked guidance. I aimed to change that.” Through his efforts, Tushar has not only bridged the educational gap but also ignited a passion for learning that will resonate throughout the students’ lives.
