In the world of business, great ideas are not generated; they are discovered. This philosophy is at the core of Divyaanshu Makkar, a co-founder of Sourcewiz, a SaaS startup on a mission to transform the Indian export ecosystem. Alongside his friends and colleagues, Mayur Bhangale and Vikas Garg, Divyaanshu embarked on a journey to revolutionize international trade in India.
Digitizing Exporters for Growth
Recognizing the vital role of international trade in the economy, Divyaanshu and his team decided to empower a segment often overlooked—the exporters. Their vision was to create an operating system for exporters, providing tools for sales and marketing, procurement, production planning, and logistics.
Divyaanshu explains, “We are building an operating system for exporters to run their entire business on our tools across sales and marketing, procurement, production planning, and logistics.”
Sourcewiz’s first product addresses a significant challenge faced by exporters—creating customized e-catalogs for buyers efficiently. Exporters often took several days to compile these catalogs due to disorganized information. With Sourcewiz, they can now generate catalogs in under two minutes, streamlining the process.
Solution for Exporters:
Sourcewiz goes beyond catalog creation; it helps exporters establish an online presence through website building and offers recommendations for potential buyers. The platform caters to diverse industries, including apparel, handicrafts, home textiles, furniture, and auto parts, with clients from India, Bangladesh, and the US.
The core team operates from Gurugram and Bengaluru, while the sales team covers key hubs across India, ensuring nationwide reach.
A Team Driven by Vision:
Divyaanshu and Vikas, alumni of IIT Delhi, have known each other since 2011, sharing a passion for innovation. Mayur and Vikas crossed paths at Zomato, where they honed their skills and shared their entrepreneurial aspirations. Together, they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey, founding Sourcewiz in July 2021.
Sourcewiz has secured funding from prominent investors, including Blume VC and Alpha Wave Global, as well as angel investors from companies like Classplus, Tracxn, and Livspace. The startup’s goal is to digitize export workflows, allowing businesses to trade more efficiently.
Sajith Pai of Blume Ventures notes, “The early success in selling SaaS software convinced us that Sourcewiz can bring aboard $200 billion worth of transactions online.”
Customer-Centric Innovation:
To build Sourcewiz, Divyaanshu and his team immersed themselves in the world of exporters. They visited factories, engaged with factory owners, and even spoke with buyers to understand the challenges and inefficiencies in the export process. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the shift toward online trade, prompting Sourcewiz to develop a platform that helps exporters create e-catalogs packed with features such as zoom, 3D views, analytics, and inquiry management.
In just five months, Sourcewiz has achieved significant milestones, including on boarding 50 exporters, uploading 150,000 unique products, and sharing 400+ catalogues accessed by buyers in 63 cities across 15 countries.
Divyaanshu Makkar’s journey with Sourcewiz exemplifies the power of innovation and data-driven solutions in transforming traditional industries. By digitizing the export ecosystem, Divyaanshu and his team are paving the way for Indian exporters to thrive in the global marketplace, offering them a seamless and efficient platform for growth and expansion.
