In the vast and complex world of international trade, three visionary minds, Divyaanshu Makkar, Mayur Bhangale, and Vikas Garg, have joined forces to launch Sourcewiz, a SaaS (software-as-a-service) start-up aimed at revolutionizing India’s export ecosystem. Their mission is to empower exporters with digital tools that streamline and enhance their businesses, making international trade more accessible and efficient.
The Genesis of Sourcewiz:
The journey of Sourcewiz began with the founders’ recognition of the critical role international trade plays in a country’s economy. Acknowledging the significance of this sector, Divyaanshu, Mayur, and Vikas embarked on a quest to address the challenges faced by Indian exporters. They envisioned creating an operating system for exporters, offering a comprehensive suite of tools spanning sales and marketing, procurement, production planning, and logistics. Divyaanshu Makkar, Co-founder of Sourcewiz, explains their vision, stating, “We are building an operating system for exporters to run their entire business on our tools across sales and marketing, procurement, production planning, and logistics.”
Sourcewiz has taken significant steps toward its goal by launching its first product, which enables exporters to create customized e-catalogues for their buyers in less than two minutes. This innovation addresses a prevalent challenge in the export industry, where disorganized information often leads to prolonged catalogue creation times, sometimes taking over five days. Additionally, the inability to securely share product details with buyers posed a risk of intellectual property leakage to competitors.
Sourcewiz not only streamlines catalogue creation but also helps exporters establish an online presence through its website builder. Furthermore, the platform offers valuable insights by recommending potential buyers to exporters. The impact of these innovations has been significant, with Divyaanshu revealing that their services have already attracted customers from various sectors, including apparel, handicrafts, home textiles, furniture, and auto parts, from India, Bangladesh, and the United States.
The founding team of Sourcewiz shares a history of collaboration and friendship. Divyaanshu and Vikas have known each other since 2011 when they were both students at IIT Delhi. Their professional paths crossed again when Vikas worked as a product manager at Zomato, and Mayur was a software engineer at the same company. Sourcewiz officially launched its operations in July 2021, rapidly expanding with its first hire just a month later. The startup has gained support from investors like Blume VC and Alpha Wave Global, as well as prominent angel investors, including founders from Classplus, Tracxn, Loginext, and Livspace. Industry experts from Wayfair, the largest furniture marketplace in the United States, have also contributed to Sourcewiz’s funding.
Tapping into the Expanding Export Market:
The timing of Sourcewiz’s emergence into the export ecosystem aligns with India’s export sector’s robust growth. The country’s exports experienced a 30 percent increase in the aftermath of the COVID-19 disruptions, and India’s emergence as a parallel supply source to China further fueled this growth. Exporters, both large and small, are actively seeking tools to digitize their workflows, enabling faster and more efficient trade. Sajith Pai of Blume Ventures underscores the potential of Sourcewiz, stating, “The early success in selling SaaS software convinced us that Sourcewiz can bring aboard $200 billion worth of transactions online. But more than the business potential, it is also the passion of the founding team – Divyaanshu, Vikas, and Mayur – and their customer obsession that excited us at Blume.”
Sourcewiz distinguishes itself in the market by focusing on user experience. While many software solutions in this space are often clunky and challenging to use, Sourcewiz places a premium on a seamless, user-friendly interface. Their commitment to user experience is so strong that even customers over 60 years old can use the platform comfortably. Sourcewiz follows a subscription-based revenue model, with annual fees varying based on the number of products exporters wish to manage on the platform. As per the Bain & Co report, the Indian SaaS market witnessed investments totalling $4.5 billion in 2021, with continuous growth expected. The recent success of Indian SaaS businesses, such as Freshworks, reinforces the potential for growth in this sector.
Sourcewiz‘s journey is far from over. The start-up aims to expand its SaaS offerings, evolving into a comprehensive operating system that empowers exporters across various facets of their businesses. This expansion includes not only sales and marketing but also inventory management, production, and logistics. Beyond India, Sourcewiz plans to extend its customer base to countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Turkey, and Indonesia, heralding a promising future for Divyaanshu, Mayur Bhangale, Vikas Garg, and their transformative venture, Sourcewiz.
