Vinita Dasgupta (30 April 1983) is a contemporary Indian painter born to a Bengali family, sometimes known as ‘The Story teller’, and today considered an important woman painter of 21st century India, whose name stands at par with that of the other talented artists of India; she is also one of the ‘most expensive woman painter of India.

She spent most of her early childhood in different states. Her parents guided her by critiquing her work since childhood and gave her an academic foundation to grow on. they also instructed her to use common people as models. She has also learned classical singing and dancing.

In 1998 her family moved to New Delhi for higher studies and soon began learning painting and fashion design professionally. Though she was already painting since the age of five she formally started learning painting at age eighteen.

She completed her Masters in Fine Arts from the College of Art, New Delhi in 2008, and worked as an independent galleries with national and international galleries and curators.

Vinita weaves layers, colors, shapes, and textures into her artworks, to softly bring out balance and harmony. Inspired by the natural world, traditional culture, as well as pop art, the layers of life, are metaphors for Vinita Dasgupta’s art.

A part of numerous solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad, Vinita Dasgupta was a recipient of the “Art for Social Change” Award by the UN Population Fund, New Delhi in 2008. She was also awarded the National Scholarship in Painting by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2009-2011. Her solo exhibitions include the ‘Story Teller: Stories Told and Retold – V’ at the New York Art Expo, New York, 2016 and ‘Story Teller- Stories Told and Retold – II’ at the Art Lounge Gallery, Lisbon in 2015.
