He has been a serial entrepreneur and early-stage investor in India, Singapore, and the US since 1988.

Rakesh is also managing his partner at Ncubate Capital Partners, which invests in early-stage companies in India from his open-ended balance sheet fund. After graduating from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Jadapur University, India, he started his career in 1983 at NELCO (Tata Group), followed by Mitsui and Siemens.

Since 1988, he has founded/co-founded 14 of his companies, 8 of which he has retired. These companies currently employ more than 9,000 people and generate approximately $1 billion in combined sales.

He has been an active mentor to many startups in India and Singapore and enjoys interacting with engineers and his B-school students to stimulate their interest in entrepreneurship. He serves on various industry/technical committees in India and speaks at his engineering conferences. He is a homely man who enjoys traveling, cricket, music, and business reading.
