Journey of a Succesful Indian Cosmetic Company Mamaearth

Ghazal Alagh, co-founder of MamaEarth, is one of Gurgaon’s most successful entrepreneurs.

During her stay in the United States, she discovered that cosmetics, especially baby products, contained harmful chemicals and toxins. During her pregnancy, she started looking for safer baby product options with her husband, but she realized they were not very available in the Indian market.

As a result, they had to order their products from the US, which proved to be very expensive and cumbersome. This made her realize there might be other parents struggling with the same issues. So she decided to do something about it.

Their main challenge was to identify effective natural ingredients that could be used to replace traditional ingredients in baby products.Like many business women in India, Ghazal faces gender discrimination. but it never stopped her.

Thus was born her MamaEarth, which is now her first MADESAFE certified toxin-free brand in Asia. Her brand currently offers more than 20 of her products for babies and mothers, with stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, with plans to expand to 10 cities.
