Rahul Veerwal is the founder and CEO of GetWork. Based on his own experience during his studies, he decided to create a platform that trains students at scale, expedites the recruitment process, and matches employable students with leading companies in the country. GetWork is his SaaS-based HRtech and EdTech platform that connects leading companies with thousands of exchange cells in higher education and private institutions in India. With a special focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the company is breaking the rules in the campus switching industry.
During the COVID outbreak, when all universities were closed due to lockdowns and new educational technology platforms popped up everywhere, we saw a clear opportunity. All of them reached out independently to employers through various channels, overwhelming their recruiting teams and making the job difficult for employers and employees to find each other. We have come up with a solution to that problem by providing a single platform solution for placement cells and employers to communicate with each other, post their requirements and opportunities making it easier for employers of any size to find a team member that matches their needs. Therefore, it was more of a blessing in disguise and we managed to put ourselves at the centre of the new normal, facilitating the industry that was previously not tech savvy in the pre-Covid period.
Some of the major key learnings include ensuring that we have a flawless product, identifying that providing impeccable service is key to retaining customers, and, recognizing that in this era of change, people are lost about the next step forward so it is upon those with expertise to guide them. Finally, we must understand that people are not used to tech jargon and it’s our duty to make them realize how technology can be of service to them. Ex-HR professionals are typically affiliated with 10-20 nearby universities and travel to specific locations and various educational institutions. This meant that companies could only target a limited talent pool. Our platform allows companies to use his HR tech solution to connect him with 60+ universities without expanding their team and avoid wasting time on redundant tasks.
A focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities allows businesses to reach a diverse population that they otherwise miss due to the inability to travel, resource constraints, and the time it takes from job posting to offer initiation. This has also enabled companies to select from the largest pool of candidates, defying all kinds of location, diversity, and educational barriers. We have seen HR Tech shift its focus to skills rather than educational background. This allowed the HR department to see his true potential beyond the college circle of 10-20 people.
Moving forward, we will focus on competency-based learning, tailoring courses to candidate needs and career preferences, using deep technology for talent mapping, learning candidate behavior throughout college, Keeping track to understand their preferences, aligning them with relevant opportunities, educating both employers and candidates about hiring, and make it easier for them to embrace the new normal.
