Founder and CEO of Hemster, Allison Lee
Allison Lee is the mastermind entrepreneur behind Hemster which is the first SaaS tailoring service that enables retailers and brands to ensure precise fit in-store and online. Allison has pursued her enthusiasm for consumer technology and early-stage enterprises since founding her first company at UC Berkeley.
Prior to joining Hemster, she served as the Director of Monetization at Peel, an Alibaba-backed IoT firm, where she increased revenue from $20K to $15M in two years.
Allison Lee grew raised in South Korea, where on-site modifications were considered a regular part of the shopping experience. So when she went to the United States and saw that most businesses only had a few sizes and sent customers away without offering to modify the item, she was taken aback. Hemster was founded by her in 2016 with the goal of bringing a “made-to-measure experience” to more retailers.
Customers may now get free tailoring from 50 different stores, including DVF, Outdoor Voices, and Reformation. Measurements are recorded in-store, and the items are altered in as little as 48 hours by local tailors, with the merchant picking up the price. Hemster personalized 50,000 things in 2019. The company charges a setup fee and takes a percentage of each change, generating $19 million in income in 2020.
Allison was chosen to present at Shoptalk, the world’s largest retail convention, to show off her work with Hemster. In 2019, she was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and was featured on Techcrunch.
