Female Photographer who got herself named in Forbes through her Lens, Farah Al Qasimi
Farah Al Qasimi is a photographer from the United Arab Emirates who specializes in photos of life in the Persian Gulf. She is a keen observer of current life, capturing everyday situations in her own distinctive aesthetic style.
Farah was born and raised in Abu Dhabi before traveling to the United States to pursue a bachelor’s degree and an MFA at Yale University. As part of a project by the Public Art Fund, “Back and Forth Disco,” a series of seventeen images, was put on one hundred bus shelters throughout New York City beginning in January 2020. From July 30 to October 20, 2019, her work was on display at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s List Visual Arts Center. In 2019, her work was also on display at The Third Line in Dubai.
She has been documenting and creating alternative narratives about Arab culture, its style, taste, and interior designs for many years. She examines her personal family history via the viewpoint of intimacy and interiority for her CAM exhibition.
Farsh has also worked as an administrator for New York University in Abu Dhabi after she completed her BA before returning to Yale for her MFA. She is a professor at Pratt Institute, New York University, and the Rhode Island School of Design. The New York New Art Dealers Alliance awarded her the Artadia Prize in 2018. She is a classically educated pianist who composes her own cinematic music. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, and was named to Forbes’ list of 30 Under 30 – Art & Style 2020.
