In a remarkable display of cooperation and goodwill, the “peace clinic” program between a Pakistani and an Indian hospital facilitated a unique event in Karachi: an Indian doctor conducting a medical camp for liver transplant patients. Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin, the chief liver transplant surgeon from Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana, joined hands with Pakistani doctors at Karachi’s Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, as part of the peace clinic initiative. This extraordinary endeavor sees doctors from both sides of the border sharing their expertise to provide specialized care in the areas of kidney and liver transplants.

Dr. Soin expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to treat Pakistani patients, emphasizing that it was a distinctive experience for him. “We have even invited Ziauddin Hospital to send their doctors and paramedics for training at Medanta Hospital,” he revealed. He went on to mention that more doctors from Medanta Hospital would visit Pakistan in the future to offer medical assistance to Pakistani patients in their own homeland. Dr. Soin underlined the commitment to facilitate patients as much as possible and the intention to perform surgeries at Ziauddin Hospital.

The chairman of Ziauddin Hospital, Dr. Asim Hussain, echoed this sentiment by highlighting the camp’s role in fostering peaceful collaboration between the two hospitals. He announced plans to invite additional doctors from India to contribute their expertise and experience in the field of liver transplants. Dr. Hussain revealed ongoing discussions about establishing a combined kidney-liver ward at Ziauddin Hospital. This visionary initiative envisions doctors in Pakistan working alongside specialists from Medanta Hospital, assisted by state-of-the-art IT infrastructure.

Revolutionizing Healthcare:

Dr. Anoop Dawani, the medical superintendent at Ziauddin Hospital, welcomed this cooperative spirit among medical professionals from both countries. He emphasized that their efforts have the potential to revolutionize Pakistan’s healthcare industry, ensuring that patients in the region can access world-class treatment within their home country. Dr. Dawani noted that Ziauddin Hospital had previously partnered with India’s Apollo Hospitals to conduct joint surgeries in Karachi and establish a peace clinic, creating a platform for doctors from both countries to exchange their expertise and experiences.

Beyond Borders:

Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin’s participation in this endeavour showcases his commitment to transcending borders and healing patients through medical expertise and compassion. By bringing Indian and Pakistani doctors together, the “peace clinic” program is not only improving healthcare access but also fostering lasting bonds between two nations that share a common goal: the well-being of their people.

In these times of uncertainty, Dr. Soin’s dedication to this noble cause stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that the healing power of medicine knows no borders. His work serves as a testament to the idea that even in the face of challenges and political differences, humanity’s commitment to healing and peace will always prevail. As we look to the future, initiatives like the “peace clinic” offer a path toward a healthier, more harmonious world where health knows no borders and cooperation knows no limits.
